Land Registry to accept electronic signatures

From 27th July 2020 the Land Registry have confirmed that they are now prepared to accept witnessed electronic signatures on documents such as property transfers, leases and mortgage deeds. This will pave the way for the conveyancing process to be conducted electronically.

Whilst the signatures may be done electronically, the documents must be uploaded to a secure online portal and an authentication process must be used to ensure they are secure. Should the current COVID distancing rules continue for a prolonged period of time this new method of signing documents could prove to be very popular with clients.
